The Creative Catalyst: The Story of EcoArt Project

In the intersection of environmental science and the visual arts, a unique movement was born that speaks the universal language of art and design to solve the planet’s most pressing challenges. What began as a visionary spark in the historic landscapes of Italy has evolved into a powerhouse for sustainable change in the heart of New York City.

From Italy to the World

The journey of EcoArt Project began in 2009, founded by Pino Fortunato in Italy. Originally conceived as an international cultural platform, it was designed to capture the creative energy of artists and redirect it toward environmental advocacy. The project’s early format—a mix of juried competitions, high-profile exhibitions, and published catalogs—set the stage for what would become a global network of "eco-creatives."

Seeking to deepen its impact, the initiative crossed the Atlantic to New York, where it was formalized as a 501(c)(3) non-profit. Today, it stands as a bridge between the raw power of art and the precision of sustainable development, with a portfolio of creative accomplishments spanning from Venice and New York to Kuwait City and Havana.

A Mission of Sustainable Progress

At its core, the mission of EcoArt Project is to leverage art and design to inspire ecological awareness and accelerate sustainable solutions.

By leveraging art and design, the organization gravitates people together, making environmental education not just a necessity, but an inspiring, visceral experience.

"We use creativity to mix science and technology, making the safeguard of our planet an interesting and impactful narrative."

The Ecosystem of Programs

EcoArt Project operates through a multidisciplinary "incubator" model that nurtures ideas from concept to public execution:

  • International Competitions: The organization hosts juried art and design competitions that serve as a global scouting ground for emerging talent.

  • Exhibitions & Public Events: Through immersive exhibitions and interactive events, we turn environmental dialogue into a shared experience that engages audiences.

  • The Incubator: A collaborative space where "what’s cooking" ranges from the cultural revitalization of rural Italian towns (The Arts Colony of Acerenza) to Wellness Real Estate, which explores sustainable architecture in New York City.

  • Residencies & Workshops: By providing artists with the time and space to explore ecological themes, the project fosters long-term artistic growth and societal impact.

Strategic Support: The Rockefeller Brothers Fund

A defining moment in the organization’s history is the support received by the Rockefeller Brothers Fund. This support has been instrumental in scaling projects like Rebound-NYC, allowing EcoArt Project to activate urban spaces and fund internationally recognized artists who bridge the gap between abstract climate data and public reflection.

Join the Network

Through the EcoArt Showcase, the organization is building the largest global network of artists and designers dedicated to the planet. It is more than an organization; it is a platform for fundraising, production, and promotion—ensuring that when an ambitious idea for the Earth is born, it has the wings to fly.
